POSITION: Part-Time Community Service Worker I
SALARY: $15.00 per hour
HOURS: 24 hours per week, including evening hours and Saturdays
LOCATION: Wilmington Public Library, 10 E. 10th Street, Wilmington, DE 19801

Position Overview:

The Community Service Worker I supports the Technology Center by providing basic customer service, assisting patrons with computers and technology, and helping with day-to-day operations. This role is a front-line position that helps create a welcoming environment and ensures patrons can access library resources and services. This position helps keep services running smoothly while supporting the library’s mission to provide equitable access to information, technology, and learning opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist patrons with basic computer use, printing, scanning, and other Technology Center services.
  • Provide friendly, responsive public service to support a welcoming and inclusive library environment.
  • Perform routine clerical tasks, including recordkeeping, data entry, and preparing reports as needed.
  • Support daily operations of the Technology Center by following established procedures and workflows.
  • Help maintain an organized, clean, and functional workspace for staff and patrons.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure consistent desk coverage and high-quality service.
  • Learn and apply library policies, procedures, and terminology in day-to-day tasks.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong customer service skills and ability to engage positively with diverse populations.
  • Ability to follow directions, learn new procedures, and adapt to changing needs.
  • Basic computer skills (including familiarity with Windows, Microsoft Office Suite, and navigating email and the internet) and comfort assisting others with technology.
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous customer service, clerical, or public-facing experience preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience considered.

This position requires flexibility, including evening and Saturday hours, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, public service environment within the Technology Center.
