Types of Rooms
There are six meeting rooms and one study room located throughout the library.
- P.S. duPont meeting room 3 ft, CDC – Seats 32, minimum occupancy to book this room is 15 (16 tables & 32 chairs)
- Jacob Broom meeting room 3 ft, CDC – Seats 18, minimum occupancy to book this room is 10 (9 tables & 18 chairs)
- John Dickinson meeting room 3 ft, CDC – Seats 8, minimum occupancy to book this room is 4 (1 boardroom style table that seats 8: 12 chairs in the room)
- William P. Bancroft meeting room 3 ft, CDC – Seats 10, minimum occupancy to book this room is 5 (1 boardroom style table that seats 10 chairs)
- Gunning Bedford meeting room 3 ft, CDC – Seats 12, minimum occupancy to book this room is 3 (1 table that seats 4 & 12 chairs)
- The Commons – Seats 100, or 200 Standing Room. Reserved only with approval from Director. Minimum occupancy to book this room is 20. (ONLY 40 chairs and ONLY 5 tables upon request. Larger groups will need to rent chairs and tables at own expense.)
- Rodney Square Study Room: 3 ft, CDC – Seats 4 (1 table, 4 chairs) Walk-in, first come, first serve availability only. Reserve at the Reference desk. * Special Policy just for this room: Rodney Square Study Room Policy
History of the Meeting Rooms:
The meeting rooms were designated after the historical figures that largely impacted the shaping of the Wilmington Library.
- Jacob Broom, John Dickinson & Gunning Bedford, who were original signatories of the U.S. Constitution, helped resume the services of the library in 1788.
- P.S. duPont purchased the land that the library is located on currently and assisted with raising funds needed to pay for the construction of the building.
- William P. Bancroft donated $20,000 to satisfy the library’s debt which made the once subscription library into a library for public use.
The Rodney Square Study room may only be reserved up to 2 hours each day on a first come first serve basis. The maximum number is four patrons per session. No advance reservations available. Rodney Square Study Room Policy
Please adhere to the the meeting room policies when using this or any other space in the library. The Wilmington Library reserves the right to deny any individual or group the use of the meeting rooms if the policies are not followed.
- There is no charge to use the Wilmington Library’s Meeting Rooms for non-profit organizations, community groups or individuals.
- For-profit groups will be charged a modest meeting room fee as indicated in our meeting room policy.
- There is no charge to use the projector or projector screen (where applicable) in the meeting rooms.
- There is a $25.00 fee for use of the kitchenette for non-profits, community groups, government, individuals and for-profit organizations.
The duPont and Broom meeting rooms are furnished with the following equipment:
- Ceiling mounted projector (HDMI cord)
- Built in projector screen (ceiling mounted)
- Movable lectern
- Wireless internet access
- Individuals, organizations & groups are responsible for providing and operating their own laptop equipment when using the meeting rooms.
The Bancroft and Dickinson meeting rooms are furnished with the following equipment:
- Built in projector screen (ceiling mounted)
- Wireless internet access
- Individuals, organizations & Groups are responsible for providing and operating their own laptop equipment when using the meeting rooms.
The Gunning Bedford and Rodney Square rooms are equipped with the following equipment:
- Wireless internet access is available for patrons
NOTE: If the meeting requires adult supervision for high school or younger individuals, the applicant must attend and supervise the entire meeting. Children must have adequate adult supervision. The applicant is responsible for any damages caused by the group or individuals during the meeting.
